Hebrew for “scroll,” megillah refers to any one of the five scrolls read or chanted during key periods of the Jewish year. The five megillot (pl) are Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes and Esther.
Often heard in the context of “the reading of the megillah” during Purim, which refers specifically to the book of Esther.
