“While this project has been in the works for the past year, the timing feels particularly poignant. We need many more women leaders and feminist perspectives in the world right now,” says artist and Reboot Network member Tiffany Shlain, whose sculpture DENDROFEMONOLOGY: A Feminist History Tree Ring will be installed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. presented by the National Women’s History Museum. Detroit artist Olivia Guterson has created a series of gorgeous “earth portals” as an offering to Mother Earth as part of a Tu BiShvat exhibition, Environmentally Speaking, with the JCC of Metro Detroit, and has contributed to a live artistic celebration of the trees with Hazon.

Engaging in a critical conversation about our changing climate and the related perils we face, Environmentally Speaking is a multi-sensory and accessible exhibition examining our interspecies connectedness, offering viable ways we can positively impact our collective future now, Guterson said.

The Talmud teaches us: “Whoever saves a single life is considered by scripture to have saved the whole world.”  Lesser known is the teaching that directly follows: “That being said, whoever just goes ahead and saves the whole world is considered super menschy and highly to be fived.”

Writer and Reboot Network member Jonathan Bines reflects on a landmark climate ruling in favor of a group of young Montanans that will force the state to confront the ongoing climate catastrophe. As the high holidays approach and we take stock of the year gone by and look forward to the new one, Bines hopes we can all make the commitment to center the climate crisis as the defining challenge of our time.
