Modern Loss: Community and Candid Conversations

Join Reboot for two special events with Rebecca Soffer, exploring her book, “The Modern Loss Handbook,” and the global movement to destigmatize the universal experience of grief while encouraging people to find meaning and live richly: April 9 in Detroit and April 10 in Chicago.

“The Modern Loss Handbook” offers a welcoming space in which to grow thoughts and feelings as they evolve and create a personal roadmap toward resilience. With warmth, wit and disarming humor, Rebecca and the rabbis will unpack the wisdom of the book and discuss how the long arc of loss can be woven into our lives in a way that is practical, creative, comforting, provoking, and, finally, hopeful.

Join Rabbi Jennifer Kaluzny, Rabbi Michael Moskowitz and guest speaker, Rebecca Soffer, for a candid, warm, and even humorous conversation exploring Rebecca’s book. This event is intended for adults and will include a conversation with Rebecca Soffer and the rabbis, followed by strolling refreshments and book signing. Due to the generosity of donors, there is no charge to attend, but registration is required.

Join Rabbi Shoshanah Conover and guest speaker, Rebecca Soffer, as they explore Rebecca’s book,  and the global movement to destigmatize the universal experience of grief while encouraging people to find meaning and live richly. This event is intended for all ages (16+)  and will include a conversation with Rebecca Soffer and Rabbi Shoshanah Conover, followed by refreshments and a book signing. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. Doors open 6:30pm; Program begins at 7pm. This program will be live streamed and recorded for digital viewing options.

The Anne Frank Gift Shop

Is there a wrong way to talk about the Holocaust? That’s the question at the heart of “The Anne Frank Gift Shop,” a dark comedy short about antisemitism that packs a vital and timely message. The film was shortlisted for the best live action short category for the 96th Academy Awards! When a high-end design firm presents its plans to reimagine the gift shop at The Anne Frank House, the company’s overt appeal to Generation Z sparks a debate about collective trauma, the Holocaust—and tote bags. Mickey Rapkin, whose best selling book was the basis for the Pitch Perfect film and television franchise, partnered with Reboot Studios, which funded the project as a part of its inaugural class of studio investments in 2022. We've Been Here Before

We’ve Been Here Before connects the dots between mass shootings, the rise in anti-semitism, and the rise in hate violence in America in a fresh way. It follows the work of Eric Ward, a renowned expert on the relationship between authoritarian movements, hate violence, and preserving inclusive democracy. Ward was in the punk rock subculture when neo-Nazi’s infiltrated the punk scene in the 1980’s and 90’s. The short documentary film, by Jacob Kornbluth and a part of Reboot Studios’ latest round of funding, is a deep dive into the punk subculture that fought back against White Nationalists and neo-Nazis, and the lessons they have to share with the larger struggle against hate not just in America, but the world.
