Deadline: Reboot Studios Joins Broadway Producing Team Of Alex Edelman’s “Just For Us’”

In an exclusive, Deadline’s Greg Evans reported that Reboot Studios, the production arm of the arts and culture nonprofit Reboot joined the producing team for the Broadway run of Alex Edelman’s Just For Us. Read the full Deadline article here and learn more about the show here.

Edelman’s one-man-comedy at the Hudson Theatre addresses antisemitism by chronicling the Jewish playwright’s visit to a meeting of White Nationalists. The Broadway show is among a slate of grantees that mark a second round of funding for Reboot. Reboot Studios funds and develops content for theater, television, film, podcasts, music and publishing, with a mission to empower storytellers to transform society through a Jewish lens.

The Broadway show of Just for Us is produced by Jenny Gersten, Rachel Sussman, and Seaview, with Mike Birbiglia. Birbiglia originally produced Just For Us Off-Broadway in association with Mike Lavoie, Carlee Briglia and Joseph Birbiglia. Reboot joined the Broadway run as a co-producer with Broadway producer Rebecca Gold. DEADLINE Exclusive: Reboot Launches Reboot Studios

EXCLUSIVE: The Jewish non-profit Reboot has launched its own production company Reboot Studios, which will provide seed funding for and develop Jewish content across theater, television, film, podcasts, music and publishing.

The new banner stems from Reboot’s past successes funding projects across all media, including Saturday Night Seder, with Jason Alexander, Billy Porter, Henry Winkler, Pamela Adlon, Cynthia Erivo and more. That virtual Passover production was put on as a means of bolstering the CDC Foundation’s Coronavirus Emergency Response Fund in the early days of the pandemic, and would ultimately raise more than $3.5M. Saturday Night Seder

Rooted in tradition but rewritten to include comedy, music, and sketches, SATURDAY NIGHT SEDER was a grassroots effort put together in just over two weeks at the start of the pandemic by a small team working remotely around the country.

In a time of confinement and uncertainty, a ragtag team of Jews and non-Jewish Passover enthusiasts felt it was more important than ever to channel creative energies and gather community to reinterpret the timeless story of liberation and renewal while raising money for those on the front lines enduring — and fighting — an actual plague.

SATURDAY NIGHT SEDER premiered to an audience of more than 1 million viewers, and has raised more than $3.5 million for the CDC Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund. It is considered one of the first great examples of pandemic fundraising programming, and is widely hailed as ushering in an era of entertainment using the medium. Learn more and watch here!
