Reboot: A Year in Review

January 10, 2022

2021 was a busy, big year for Reboot. We look back on the last 12 months with a deep breath of accomplishment while digesting all the high-quality and exciting work we have done and how we have grown as an organization.

We hope you have had a chance to experience some of what Reboot has produced over the last year. Here are some of the highlights:

2021 saw us boldly launch a new brand and robust digital platform, Rebooting.com that is our hub, showcasing our ambitious work around impacting Jewish life through media, arts and culture. Our website is our digital destination for wandering Jews and their friends…everywhere…to gain inspiration and access to this century-old practice that offers so much to our modern world.

One of the featured projects on the website is our Reboot Ideas conversations. Started a week after the initial pandemic-driven shutdown, the Reboot Ideas conversations are a place to delve into big Jewish topics in new ways, like looking into the threats to Democracy, examining how the music of our past shapes our future, unpacking the complexities of Israel and grappling with racism by interrogating the Jewish community’s collective atonement journey.

Instead of slowing us down, the challenges of the pandemic forced us to change. We grew the quality and quantity of our projects, finding new ways to connect with and deeply engage new audiences.

We often turn the lens on ourselves to make sure that we have impact, and we have found through evaluations that our work is resonating with participants and helping them lead richer Jewish lives. These findings are supported by requests from other Jewish organizations – who see us as a thought leader – to collaborate and help them rethink their programming, and to connect them with members of our creative network.

In 2021, we more than tripled the number of new projects and vastly increased the number of participants in our programs, bringing us to nearly 4 million viewers/participants in the past 24 months. Learn more about our impact here.

In 2021, we launched a project to reduce our reliance on plastic, starting with Plastover to give up plastics for Passover. We gathered an incredible international cast of musicians to create new scores for the iconic films The Golem and 10 Commandments and produced an epic new Chanukah album. We shared the inspiring stories of Jewish seniors through Silver Screen Studios and we stayed up all night celebrating Shavuot, immersed in music, comedy, food, learning and conversation at Reboot’s all-night culture and arts festival DAWN. And we connected experiences of the past to today through What Would You Bring?, an online exhibition where you can discover refugee stories told through the lens of the objects they brought with them.

We are looking back to propel us forward. We are excited for another year.
