Weekly Unscrolled Torah Portion: Va-Ethannan

July 22, 2021

“Yes,the manna was a miracle. But try eating the same damn miracle for four decades. “Man, I never thought I’d miss those matzohs we made the night we first fled.” “But you never heard Moses complain. He was always, What’s for dinner tonight? Ooh, manna? I love manna!”

In Parsha Va-Ethannan, we read a comical, realistic and engaging conversation between a husband and wife about Moses’ transition of stepping down from leading the Israelites into the promised land. They speak about how even though Moses does not get much in return after shepherding the Israelites for forty years in the desert, he still does not complain. They discuss how Moses may have not always been clear on whose behalf he was working for- the Israelites or God- but how he had unwavering faith.
